Mental Health Awareness Week: Ascent Group's strategies for supporting mental health
In support of Mental Health Awareness week, we wanted to share some of our group strategies for supporting mental health and wellbeing that really make an impact. Our consultants are always looking after their candidates and clients, so it is only right that we do the same for them!
According to research, 1 in 6 people experience mental health problems in the workplace, and as a result, 81% of workplaces have now increased their focus on employee mental health. Although this is a significant improvement in comparison to pre-pandemic, there is still room for refinement, which is why we have been listening to our teams and implementing changes within our own business.
Flexible working
At Ascent Group, we understand the importance of flexible working arrangements, and we offer a variety of options to our employees. We’re proud to say that we recently welcomed our first fully remote employee to the team!
This flexibility allows us to tap into talent from all over and it has also contributed to making our hiring process even more inclusive as we appeal to all types of individuals.
Our Digital brand TechNET Digital recently shared their 2023 Salary Survey, which is packed full of the latest salaries and hot topics in the industry. TechNET asked their respondents to share how their companies support wellbeing, mental health, and work-life balance, to which 75% of them chose flexible working as their top answer, which shows that workplace flexibility is crucial to maintaining a happy team.
Shorter work week
All of our teams can take advantage of the option of a shorter work week, whether they earn Fridays off individually to enjoy a long weekend or achieve their weekly objectives as a team and take Friday afternoon off.
We’re proud to have been one of the pioneers of the ‘4-day work week’ initiative in the UK, and it has been a huge success with promoting work-life balance and employee satisfaction. Many of our consultants now enjoy this weekly benefit.
Tailored private health care
At Ascent Group, we prioritise the physical and emotional well-being of each and every staff member. That’s why we offer private health care that goes above and beyond the basics. Our team members have access to free, quick, and convenient resources for both mental and physical health, which helps alleviate the financial burden that often comes with managing health issues. They are also able to claim back on a number of medical services.
Our private health care platform also allows our consultants to build credits through exercise which can be used in a variety of ways to support mental health and the progress tracked can highlight areas of improvement.
Personality assessment and learning styles
We understand that everyone has their own unique way of learning and working, which is why, as part of our onboarding process, we give our consultants a personality and learning style assessment. This enables our Senior Managers to understand their working preferences and tailor their support to help them grow and develop in their own unique way.
When implementing this, our goal was to create a supportive environment that allows everyone to thrive.
